We all have sweet memories of the gifts under the Christmas tree, and a toy train running around the base making its characteristic sound. Once the train and tree were taken out of their boxes to be put together, the holidays officially began. They were always present in the decorating process. What exciting was decorating the Christmas tree and setting up the train track and the cars, the whole family was involve in it and it was all smiles and joy. With everything in its place, it was time to turn the Christmas tree lights on and start the train to feel the spirit of the holidays.
If the train is not a part of your family tradition, it would be a good idea to do so, in order to get your kids more interested in family activities. There is almost no child who wouldn´t be interested in playing with a Christmas train, designing the train track layout, taking the pieces out the box to figure out how to put them together, it may be a good experience for anybody. If you´re interested in getting a train for your decoration there are some facts that you should consider to avoid some frustration and also saving some money.
It´s true that a Christmas train set is going to be used just once every year, which makes you think that quality may not be so important, but for some reason all Christmas decorations tend to break, they get a lot of dust, or we´re just not careful enough and always end up buying new decorations every Christmas. The same applies for the train, considering that there are several parts that you need to keep together if you want to have your train working, and also there is an electrical mechanism involved which could be more sensitive to the aspects mentioned before. If you want to start a tradition in your home with the train running around the Christmas tree, make sure you look for a train with the word “quality” in your mind, besides the price of course. Remember that the train is something you want to have around year after year, and just a quality train set will allow you to do that.
Buying an inexpensive train has some disadvantages. First of all, inexpensive trains are really small, therefore all the pieces are small as well, it´s easier to break or lose these parts, mainly because of little hands touching the train, wanting to play with it because, let´s face it, these trains are hard to resist for kids and some adults. Perhaps the best idea would a scale train. O-scale or G-scale are very popular and are built to resist for years. A train set like one of these will also give you the opportunity of adding more accessories in the future. Make a bigger Christmas scene with your train set by adding some benches, trees, rocks, people and more, it could be a tradition to get all your family involved.
